    The Rev. Leonard “Leon” Earl Baker, 69, of Keaau died Sept. 18 in Aurora, Colo. Born in Norfolk, Va., he was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, served as pastor at North Windward Baptist Chapel on Oahu and Hamakua Baptist Mission and Paradise Park Baptist Church on the Big Island and was director of missions for the Big Island Baptist Association. Celebration of life service from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 14) at Kaumana Drive Baptist Church in Hilo. Survived by wife, Alethia D. Baker of Aurora; son, Earl E. (Lorene) Baker; daughter, Theresa (Brian) Kemm; sisters, Madge Baker and Dorothy Harrison; brother, Prince (Geraldine) Baker; sister-in-law, Yolanda Baker; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

    Valerie “V.V.” Virginia Kalakia Andaya, 14, of Waimea died Sept. 20 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Waimea, she was a sophomore at Honokaa High School, member of the student government and vocalist in the ensemble program.
