He was a retired manufacturing engineer and manager for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing, U.S. Navy Vietnam-era veteran, volunteer for the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, volunteer foster caregiver for Hawaii Island Humane Society and member of Hawaiian Island Pond Society and Lions Club. Jerry Toshio Nakashima, 93, of Hilo died Sept. 4 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center.
