Skip P. Dahlen, 77, of Holualoa died July 14 in Kailua-Kona. Born in Spokane, Wash., he was an entrepreneur, coffee farmer, outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. No services. Kuniko Nishimura, 95, of Hilo died July 25 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in San Diego, she was a partner and bookkeeper for Fukuya Trading Co., Nishimura Co. and TK Farms in California and member of Parlier Buddhist Church. Private services held. John Robert Pelanconi, 68, of North Kohala died Aug. 1 at home. Born in Whittier, Calif., he was a retired property manager. Wilfred “Bill” Maka Poole, 71, of Port Hadlock, Wash., died Aug. 18 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a U.S. Army Airborne veteran during the Vietnam War. Genevieve Leilani Sam, 76, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 4 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in North Kohala, she was an accountant for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and owner of Leeward Vacuum. Dr. Paul Schaal, 74, of Waikoloa died Sept. 1 at home. Born in Pittsburgh, he was a retired chiropractor, former major league third baseman who played 11 seasons for the Los Angeles and California Angels and Kansas City Royals, and owner of the former Paul Schaal’s Pizza and Pub in Overland Park, Kan.
