Benjamin “Ben” De Mello III, 84, of Hilo died Aug. 19 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired truck driver, rodeo truck driver for the military and U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 7) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Ernest James Jackson, 39, of Pahoa died Aug. 24 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hammond, La., he was a home builder and owner of Full Spectrum Home Improvements. Celebration of life 1-4 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 2) at Kalani Honua EMax building, 12-6860 Kalapana-Kapoho Road, Pahoa, followed by a lantern sendoff on the Seaview Lawn.
